Windstorm OSB Wall Sheathing

Hurricane-zone construction has just been revolutionized.

Windstorm OSB from Norbord, delivers hurricane-code wall uplift and shear performance without stud to plate connectors, blocking, or filler strips.

A Houston area builder will save $1 Million dollars on upcoming projects using Windstorm. The material, labor, and time savings directly impact the bottom line.

Windstorm 4’x 97 1/8”, 109 1/8”, and 121 1/8” wall sheathing panels lock the top of the top plate and the bottom of the bottom plate together, meeting uplift and shear requirements using the continuous sheathing method and your engineer’s specified nailing pattern.

Windstorm meets code. The continuous sheathing method is accepted in building codes. With wood frame construction the IRC states that regions where the basic wind speeds equal or exceed 110 MPH shall be designed in accordance with one of the following.
-The Wood Construction Manual for one and two story-family dwelling; or
-The Southern Building Code Congress International Standard for Hurricane Resistant Residential Construction (SSTD 10); or
- Minimum Design Loads for Building and Other Structures (ASCE -7).

Tension testing conducted at the NAHB Research Center showed excellent safety factors relative to design values based on normal load durations and results were consistent with NDS design of nails and SSTD 10-99 for design of wall systems. Shear wall tests showed excellent agreement with published nominal unit shear values and were consistent with SSTD 10-99 for design of wall systems.

Calculate the uplift and shear requirements. Specify the nailing pattern. Ask for Windstorm! Build with Windstorm!
