2006 NextGen "Peace of Mind" Home
2006 International Builders' Show
January 11 - 14

Peace of mind — it’s the feeling you get from knowing that you are safe, secure and healthy, the feeling you get in knowing that all your needs are met.

That sense of comfort is what every homebuilder aims to offer their buyers. But in an ever-changing world, it’s more than a challenge to stay abreast of the constantly advancing marketplace….that is, unless you take a visit to this year’s International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla.

A show staple for four years now, this year’s 2006 NextGen Demonstration Home is the Peace of Mind Home, a one-stop showcase of the industry’s best offerings and best practices in home automation, green building, energy efficient and storm resistant construction.

The 2,500 square-foot home will be constructed at IBS by custom homebuilder BrownStone Builders & Associates and built to the Institute for Business & Home Safety’s (IBHS)Fortified…for safer living® program, a program designed to raise national awareness of the need to build more disaster-resistant homes.

The “Peace of Mind” home will also address topical issues such as green building, energy efficiency, and today’s changing lifestyle needs. The home will include some of the following exciting features:
  • More than 15 technologies approved by PATH (Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing);
  • A DuPont™ StormRoom™ with Kevlar, a residential in-home storm shelter, to give people a place to hide during the deadly tornadoes spawned by a major hurricane;
  • The Icynene Insulation System®, which insulates and air seals in one step, helping homeowners save up to 50 percent on their energy bill every month;
  • Multiple products from REHAU, including corrosion resistant plumbing and a unique residential fire protection system;
  • Wireless technology by Z-Wave Alliance that allows homeowners to manage their home from anywhere in the world; and
  • The Connect Io™ Intelligent Oven® that can be controlled from any computer or phone.
More than just disaster-resistance, however, the home will also bring attention to new technologies such as electronic faucets and tankless water heaters — providing homeowners with the peace of mind that comes from knowing energy bills will be lowered. The home will also address the market’s growing turn toward green building and healthy homes, including innovations such as no VOC paint and natural organic ornamental plant and turf.

The NextGen "Peace of Mind Home has the following ratings: IBHS "Fortified for Safer Living", Energy Star and qualifies as a Certified Florida Green Home.

And, for the first time this year, the NextGen demonstration home will serve not only as a show home, but a model home for the first NextGen Certified™ planned community to be built near Tampa Bay, Fla. The community, also built by BrownStone Builders, will provide inspired visitors with the opportunity to purchase their own "Peace of Mind" home, complete with all the features and technologies showcased at IBS.

Look for the NextGen "Peace of Mind" home at this year's International Builders' Show, Booth - Parking Lot D #2.
