2006 International Builders' Show to Feature Stronger, Safer "Peace of Mind" Home
ORLANDO, Fla.- Sept. 27 ----- After drawing more than 100,000 attendees from across the world this past January, the International Builders' Show - the largest annual light construction show in the world - will run again next year from Jan. 11 to 14 in Orlando, Fla. The show's attendees will most likely be gathering at a very timely exhibit: The NextGen "Peace of Mind" Demonstration Home.
Constructed in the parking lot of the Orange County Convention Center for the show, this 2,500 square-foot home, built by custom homebuilder BrownStone Builders & Associates, will showcase the latest innovations in storm-resistant construction, built to the Institute for Business & Home Safety's (IBHS) Fortified...for safer living® program.
"The Fortified...for safer living® program offers a flexible and affordable means to construct a disaster-resistant new home anywhere in the country," says Kevin Barber, vice president of communications at IBHS. "The NextGen 'Peace of Mind' Home offers a great opportunity to present the program to builders looking to add this kind of value for their customers."
Visitors to the home will enjoy not only a look at better building products, but also a hands-on introduction to the latest advancements in home air quality, energy efficiency and home control.
"The idea is to meld all of these new technologies into a home that truly offers its resident what every homebuyer is looking for - peace of mind," says Paul Barnett, president of iShow, producer of all the NextGen projects.
"We're really excited about bringing new technology to the marketplace, especially as it involves disaster resistance, the need for which has definitely been seen this year," says Carlos Martin, a researcher for PATH (Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing). The home will showcase more than 15 PATH-approved technologies.
The NextGen Home has been a show feature for four years. "This year will be the first year, however, in which visitors to the home will be able to walk through and say 'I want this exact house,' and they can actually get it at Porte de la Mer, the first NextGen Certified planned community, located near Tampa Bay, Fla." says Frank Daly, partner with the developer, BrownStone Builders.
