2004 NEXTGEN DEMONSTRATION HOME ATTRACTS LEADING NAMES IN HOME INNOVATION

BELLEVUE, Wash. – The latest products from leading companies in the home technology, safety, affordability and building science industries will be on display under one roof from Jan 7 - 22 in the 2004 NextGen Demonstration Home being constructed outside the Las Vegas Convention Center.

With products from more than 60 sponsors, and coinciding with the Consumer Electronics Show and the International Builders’ Show, the NextGen house will display the latest evolution of the American home.

The 2300 square-foot home features three bedrooms and two bathrooms in addition to a formal dining room, great room, kitchen, breakfast room, a two-car garage and a spacious covered patio.

“The approach the sponsors are taking to transform this average American home into a next generation home is incredible,” said Paul Barnett, president of iShow, the company producing the NextGen project. “The thought of new technologies, products and building techniques can be overwhelming to a homeowner who just wants a house to feel like a home. The NextGen project truly demonstrates advancement while maintaining the look and feel of a home today.”

The NextGen home is being produced in association with PATH (Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing), a public-private partnership working to improve the quality and affordability of new and existing homes. PATH is working to ensure a "whole house" or systems approach to NextGen that incorporates advanced technologies to maximize durability, energy efficiency, safety, affordability and quality, while also minimizing waste.

The NextGen floor plan was formulated by Carmichael & Dame Designs, a company represented by Design Basics, America’s largest home plan design firm to the building trade. In addition to offering home plans, Design Basics is an advocate for building homes better and helping builders and consumers make wise, informed decisions regarding their new homes. The open and unobstructed kitchen, dual eating areas and generous great room flow freely, expanding entertaining venues in the NextGen home.

All American Homes, a leader in systems-built homes, constructed the NextGen home in Milliken, Colo., in a controlled factory setting. It was then moved to the building site for placement on a permanent foundation, where craftsmen are completing the building process. All American Homes have long been known for precision engineering and reduced costs of as much as 10 to 12 percent over traditional construction costs, thanks to the efficiencies of large material purchases, a longer construction season and the elimination of weather and labor delays.

Inside NextGen, the official TechHome of the Consumer Electronics Association, visitors will find a wide range of new and upcoming products, amenities and features from the leading names in home innovation, including:

  • the latest products built around Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004. With all the power and functionality of Windows XP, plus new features to watch and record TV, manage your music, play DVDs, and more, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 is a remarkable new way to experience digital media at home. Microsoft representatives will be available to discuss the products at the house.
  • a home theater system valued over $150,000 by Cinema Design Group. Known throughout the world for its excellence in acoustically accurate home theater interiors, Cinema Design Group will utilize the new CinemaScape™ concept that combines the absorptive properties of one of its standard wall panels with a photo realistic environmental graphic printed on acoustically transparent fabric. Each CinemaScape™ theater is created to give the viewer the feeling of actually being at a chosen location. For NextGen, it will give the look and feel of the desert at sundown.
  • a traditional masonry-style Mystifire Burner by Heat-N-Glo with fully concealed oak-style logs. The 6000TR-Oak is a direct vent, sealed combustion fireplace, ensuring that it will not alter the quality of the air in a room in any way. As part of the Heat-N-Glo 6000 series, the TR-OAK is a recipient of the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.
  • premium fiberglass windows by Milgard, which provide the ultimate material engineered to deliver a window and door frame system that’s impervious to water, cold, heat, insects, salt air and exposure to direct sun. Within the fiberglass line, the Ultra™ Series provides the strength, low maintenance and stability of fiberglass, while presenting a traditional wood frame look. Milgard has also been recognized for manufacturing the nation’s highest quality vinyl windows for five of the last six years in surveys sponsored by BUILDER magazine.
  • LCD TVs provided by Sharp Electronics. The AQUOS™ Liquid Crystal Television combines a glossy, clear-coat finish with a widescreen 37" Advanced Super View LCD panel that is HDTV-compatible (720p) and PC-compatible. The AVC System, a separate box that houses all terminal connections, minimizes clutter around the panel itself, preserving the clean look that is ideal for wall-mounting. The AQUOS LCD also includes a 1-Bit digital audio amplifier for superb sound.
  • Silestone natural quartz surfaces in colors that include yellow, tan, blue, green and orange. Silestone surfaces will be featured in every room in the NextGen home, from the fireplace surround in the master bedroom to the hard-working tabletop in the project room. It is a superior surfacing product, with an unmatched combination of natural beauty, durability and easy maintenance. In addition, Silestone offers both scratch- and stain-resistance, coupled with a crystalline depth of color. Neither solid surfaces nor granite possess the same collection of features.
  • “The assemblage of all these products and much more into one home will really demonstrate the evolution of the American home,” says Barnett. “It will exemplify not only what innovations are out there but also how all the innovations can work together in one place to create a home environment that is fully automated, efficient, safe and affordable.”
